Cao Jiadu Street is named after Cao Jiadu. During the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (1403-1424), the Cao family in Anhui formed the Cao family village in the north of Caojianong, the east of Jiangsu North Road and the west of Wanhangdu Road in Changning District. During the years of Longqing and Wanli (from 1567 to 1620), a ferry pavilion was built between the Sanguantang Bridge on the north and south sides of the Wusong River (now Suzhou River) and the Changsheng Temple (now near the Caoyang Road Bridge in Changning District), and a yidu was set up, which was called Caojiadu. Later in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, Caojiadu became a common place name in this district. There are many excellent historical protected buildings in Caojiadu Street.
